President Brandon Garmon
Brandon Kyle Garmon is proud to serve as the President of the 80th East Texas Yamboree. After graduating from Gilmer High School in 1996, Brandon attended Kilgore College and Texas Tech University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He and his wife Kim, also a graduate of Gilmer High School and Texas Tech University, were married in 2002. They lived in Longview for a short time before returning to Gilmer in 2003. Brandon and Kim, along with their children Carter and Caroline, have enjoyed many Yamboree activities throughout the years. As a member of the Gilmer Buckeye Band, Brandon participated in many Yamboree parades and Yamboree Marching Contests and has carried on the tradition in his career.
Brandon began his career as a band director at Gilmer Junior High in 2001, where he taught both the 7th and 8th grade bands during his tenure. He also assisted with beginner and high school bands while at Gilmer ISD. In 2013, Brandon became the high school band director at Union Grove ISD. He is a member of First United Methodist Church in Gilmer and has previously served as a state board member to the Association of Texas Small School Bands.
Brandon and Kim’s son, Carter, currently attends Union Grove ISD and has participated in Yamboree pageants as a member of the Queen’s Court under Queens Kaitlyn Tackett, Drew Henson-Hill and Alexis Williams. Caroline experienced her first Yamboree in 2016 and looks forward to the many fun Yamborees in her future. Kim has been actively involved with the Yamboree Queen’s Court and the Queen’s Announcement Dinner committee, as well as the Pageant committee. She has also participated in building many parade floats through the years as a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
The Yamboree is a very special time in our community – a time when everyone comes together to celebrate our town and its heritage, to enjoy the homecoming of friends and family and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you enjoy the carnival rides, the livestock show, the pageant, the music or the food, Brandon and his family invite you to come out and enjoy the 80th East Texas Yamboree.
